Building capacity on EE’s extensive 4G UK network

Client: EE was formed through the merger of T-Mobile UK and Orange, owned by parent company’s Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom. Approval has recently been given for the acquisition of EE by BT.

4Site is tasked with providing extensive design services on the EE 2G RAN refresh programme providing new 4G services across the UK.  As an extension to the EE scope, our site designs now also cater for the provision of the Emergency Services Network (ESN) which is due to replace Tetra.

Our upgrades use EE’s spectrum, but employ the infrastructure that it shares with Hutchison as part of the shared network MBNL deal between T-Mobile and Hutchison, that predated the EE merger. Its 2G and LTE use Huawei SRAN technology.

4Site has been carrying out detailed site surveys and completing complex designs with multiple radio solutions using existing infrastructure on behalf of the lead OEM partner.

As well as providing 4G LTE, the project is enhancing the 2G layer and improving the 3G network capacity and in-building network coverage.
